Change.

Change is evident. Moving in life is evident. Doing what excited you is evident to make yourself happy.

Everybody all the time wants you to do, to move or at least know what you want to do, where you want to move.

Stop. BREATHE. At 19 I just love not knowing where I will be in a year and what I will be doing. It excites me. Embrace the unknown. As humans we always want to know what the future will look like. Therefore we commit to obligations like work and uni. But at least we are doing something, pleasing our parents and others, right?

WRONG.

Be honest with yourself. Do you like what you are doing right now? Yes, sometimes in life we definitely have to push through and “just suck it up”. But now? In our 20s?? Why would you study something that doesn’t ignite a spark in you, only to “have a degree”. I am not saying education is not important but uni is this huge opportunity to finally focus on what you love instead of having to study for subjects that don’t interest you. Figure out what you love doing! This whole period is about it figuring out.

How about doing that thing you love? What is it you’ve always wanted to do? Why are you not doing it, pursuing your dream? You are scared. Other opinions, the “career” paths of our friends can be intimidating? Why does it work so well for them? Maybe because they love what they are doing? Find what ignites a spark in you and you are going to shine just as bright!!

Two options. Choose one. Going after your dream and finding out it’s actually not for you or wondering for the rest of your life if it would’ve been THE thing for you.

Every single day we have 100% control over our lives. Every single day you can choose to be someone totally different, do something completely different. Paulo Coelho in the alchemist gave such an important advice: The world’s greatest lie is “that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what’s happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That’s the world’s greatest lie.”

Do you know what the great thing about mistakes is? They’re meant to happen. They make you stronger. Every time you pursue something you thought you loved and find out you don’t actually like it as much, you get one step closer to finding your true meaning in life. Additionally, you get braver and braver jumping into ice cold waters and finally learn how to become one with the pain and how to swim, while grinning widely. If you keep looking and trying out new things you are going to find out what you love doing. And when you do, you are going to realise all the lessons you learned, the hurdles you had to overcome lead you there. The whole journey starts to make sense because it lead you to your highest excitement.

Sound too dreamy for you? Well, have you tried it yet?

Be honest with yourself. Wake up. Nobody is going to walk up to you and suddenly hand it all to you and gift you your happiness. You have to fight for it yourself. And that thought in the back of your head, you keep thinking about, that thing you’ve always wanted to do. DO IT.

For the past semester I studied law online. I really thought it was for me. Recently I was finally honest with myself and found out it doesn’t ignite that spark in me. I just LOVE being around people and I know studying online shut that off for me. And I don’t regret it at all. I would’ve always wondered if it would’ve been for me. As soon as I realised I wasn’t following my highest excitement I changed my plans and laid out a new path. I had the answer in my head the whole time, I just had to admit to myself that I had been wrong. Being brutally honest with yourself can be SO hard and external forces can influence you but it’s not until you listen to yourself that you will become happy. You don’t want to look back on this year thinking, f*ck, I should’ve just done it.

los obstáculos no son la vida. son tus pensamientos.

PERIOD.
