My granddad was born in 1926 in Austria. Brainwashed by Hitler and his project, the “Hitlerjugend”, that my grandpa formed part of, at 18 years old he was excited to go to war, like so many other young men. Finally having the chance to prove how much they loved their homeland. Finally getting out of Austria, to “travel”. If only, they’d known… Very few weeks in, they realized this did not meet their expectations. It was pure horror. Seeing your best friends dying, fearing for your life without a single minute of rest and shooting others to save yourself, even though you knew that it would hurt them just as bad as it hurt you.
