Every time I’m wandering the streets of an unknown city or place, I somehow always end up close to the water. There is something, that really attracts me about it. Even more actually, it’s calling me. The energy water transmits to me feels like a healing power. It has the ability to soothe me instantly and make me calm down.
When I travel, I quite randomly choose the places I want to go to. Right now for example, I ended up in quite a small town in the north of France. What brought me here? Yes you guessed right! WATER. There seems to be an infinite coastline here and watching the waves crashing to shore is my absolute favourite thing to do. Where ever I am, I know I’ll reconnect to my deepest self when I’m around water. Over the past years, I’ve found myself staying in some cities, but only long enough to feel the urge to reconnect with a great water body. By now I hadn’t seen an ocean in 7 weeks and it was definitely time to return. I’m really excited for the walk along the coastline and watch this greater than life natural wonder.
The oceans are one of the few things we haven’t managed to tame. And I am so thankful for that. Mountains, deserts, oceans, cliffs seem to be the only surviving landscapes that we cannot destroy. I firmly believe, that we can’t destroy this planet anyways, it’s just ensuring we destroy ourselves. The Earth won’t die, it has continued to live under extreme conditions, heat and frost, that we cannot reciprocate. Therefore I’m always glad to see Nature fighting back and setting is back into our place. This morning I visited a monument for sailors and skippers that had died at sea in the past century. It made me sad, because many of them were my age or even younger, but it also reminded me that we are guests on this beautiful rock and we should never stop respecting it.
Summing up, my relationship with water is a quite simple one. My adoration for her power and softness are infinite, but I am always aware, that she needs to be met with the respect she deserves. She’s always stronger than we expect and will do what’s necessary to prove that her power is not negotiable. Now I’m also aware that people swallowed by tsunamis or falling victim to floods are often not at fault. What’s happening, is that Nature sets us back into our positions but at the moment it hits people in less developed countries harder than the ones in more developed countries. It’s not until big, rich companies and countries and all of us start acting from a place of love and human nature, that we can end this.
It’s inevitable to realise, that we have to work with Nature instead of against her. Until then, I’ll just continue adoring what’s there and leave nothing more than footprints and smiles behind.
