How can we imagine a perfect day, if one little detail would make all the difference?

Guide your overwhelming thoughts to thankfulness.

Yesterday I spoke with a best friend about the perfect day excercise. We imagined what her perfect day would look like and tried to figure out, what makes her happy. Of course it’s far easier to explain some things in general instead of diving deep into detailed descriptions. On the one hand side I believe, like her, there is no ONE perfect day. A lot depends on the circumstances like your mood, whom you want to be with, which creativity is flowing through you that day etc. On the other hand side, observations about how you want to feel, what you’re smelling (candle, incense sticks), what you’re hearing, where you want to be, paint a clearer picture.

Recently I learned that people grasp information much better, if we paint a story. Intentionally I say paint because stories that include all our senses, just imprint themselves in our brains way better.

So, when we were having this conversation, she struggled a bit to settle on one perfect day. She didn’t want to determine certain activities at certain times, because what if one detail would make all the difference? When she asked this, one story of Jay Shettys book Think like a Monk (see we remember stories best), came to my mind: one man was complaining about not having shoes, until he saw a man without feet. Without valuing your problems less, I want to make you aware, that if we feel grateful, there is no space for anger or fear.

Try it out: speak loudly to yourself, mention your own name and state what you’re grateful for. In this large world, there are always people that have it worse. It’s equally sad as beautiful and powerful to remind yourself of how much you already have.

Today is Someday. Someday in the past you were wishing for Today to happen.

The lesson behind this story: redirect the overwhelming thoughts to thankfulness. Take a moment to appreciate, how amazing it is, that we have the freedom to decide every single day on what to do with our lives. Isn’t it incredible that we can dream about creating our perfect day, and then actually turn it into reality??!!

Your only limit is your mind. So f*ing work on it.

You have all the freedom in the world to change your job if you don’t like it. We have leisure time, that we can fill how however we want to. How many people on this planet cannot choose, where to work? So many don’t even have time to think about free time.

Time is a luxury good. Use it wisely.

We create boundaries in our heads. It doesn’t matter if these were influenced by someone in your life, or by the environment surrouding you, or by the society we live in. What matters is that you can change. You are responsible for what you do, what you think and where you are on your path in life. You decide whether to read a motivational book before you go to bed or watch Netflix. Only you know what you’re really like when you’re alone and that makes all the difference.

Who do you choose to be when nobody is watching?
