The power of choosing what to think before going to bed.

We all know this feeling of waking up without energy, drained from whatever and without any motivation for nothing. There’s a simple trick on how to boost your mood effectively while waking up.

What we dream about and how we feel while we sleep, will most likely set the mood for the next day. Decide on a soothing activity before sleeping, and you’ll wake up much more relaxed. I’ve found that meditating (with a candle); journaling about something beautiful like thankfulness, a memory that makes me smile or anything I’m excited about, sends endorphins to my brain. If I fall asleep with a smile on my face, my next morning looks completely different, than when I spent an hour on my phone, scrolling through social media.

What has helped me a lot too, is setting up a small ToDo list for the next day, as my brain will not have to worry about getting anything done, because I know I’ll take care of it. My life is in my journals and in numerous life situations, I’ve found it absolutely relieving to write. Writing by hand connects differently to your brain, better than typing something in your phone or laptop ever will. Bringing your thoughts onto paper feels relieving, nurtures your creativity and you’re more likely to remember what you wrote.

Own your pre-bedtime and make sure to do something that calms you down and makes you happy. If you share your bed with someone, it might still be nice to take 30 minutes to an hour off for yourself to focus solely on your personal needs. You are the best friend you’ll ever have, so make sure to build a beautiful relationship with him/her/them. Make time for you and start your day with an energy boost.
