I want to start a challenge. The ones really interested, join me in my journey and read “eating animals” by Jonathan Safran Foer. For my german readers I recommend reading it in german “Tiere Essen”, to fully grasp the importance of this book.
Last night I found the book in a shelf and started reading. After 20 pages he had me convinced. He spoke so directly to my heart that wanted to stop ignoring the shame inside me I feel, every time I eat an animal. I am at the very start of this journey and important to me is having no stress in facing that challenge. There will be days when I go the easy way, ignoring the shame I feel for an excellent meal. My life is changing a lot and in the best way possible right now. This excitement can be used to challenge some deeply implanted thinking habits too. And I feel comfortable doing that. I want to stop ignoring reality. It feels easier to make changes while growing more independent. Actively and consciously thinking about plastic consumption and eating animals is something I have been doing over years now. Can you spot the mistake? Actively and consciously thinking about something is not enough. Acting is the verb that changes the world.
What a surprise! I just found this draft from November 2022 and it is overwhelming to see where the journey went. Today I call myself a vegetarian proudly and the consciousness I grew over the last months is incredible. Living and let live is the motto – meaning I respect meat eaters as much as vegetarians and vegans. Minding my own business and respecting what others do is part of this motto. If you’re eating meat and feel like you want to stop ignoring the shame – try reading the book. As I already told you, the author had me convinced after 20 pages.
this is a repost, because I corrected some passages.
