fast fashion – ropa rápida

Imagine we would live in a world where the poorest are dying until only the rich survive. And only after the less and least developed countries have rotten away – together with their people – we will wake up and look around and suddenly realize that there is nothing left. Except for money of course – but how many materialistic things does a dying human want to buy?

The only two things you truly cannot buy are health and time. When you’re too sick to drive that expensive car you bought, go on the five star hotel trip to Mexico and wear those cheap, expensive looking clothes, will you then wake up? But when you look around, and realize there is nothing left, it ‘s going to be too late. By realising you should’ve saved nature decades ago – used less plastic, it wouldn’t have hurt you that much; bought regional food, it has a huge health benefit for your own body; bought the second hand clothes – how important was the image you painted for all these people who didn’t even make you feel good, the people you didn’t even like? Was it more important than all the lives the children and women and men who didn’t win the birth lottery like you, the ones who died in the process to make you feel good? And lets not only talk about the dead. What about the living? The living human creatures like you and me who are working 12-20 hours a day, only to make 1-3$ a day and see their children once or twice a year? What about the humans who cannot even think about leisure time? Who do not have the indescribable privilege of choosing what to eat, which sport to do, which education to choose.

So many people in this world live from hand to mouth – meaning they earn just enough money to feed themselves that exact same day and the next day they will do the same. We say, at least they’re alive – but do you know what? If you were in that position, would there be any way you would not describe this as surviving rather than living? Would you ever choose the life of a fashion factory worker in Bangladesh or China or India or swap your life with the one of a 7-year old working in an illegal gold mine in South Africa? NO? SO WHY DO YOU KEEP LOOKING AWAY AND BUYING THE CLOTHES AND PRETENDING, JUST BECAUSE YOU CANNOT SEE THEM THEY DO NOT EXIST?? GIVE THEM A VOICE. make their voices heard, of the ones que no puedes hacer llegar sus voces. Of the ones who cannot scream loud enough for the capitalist western countries to hear them.

Imagine we would live in a world where the poorest are dying until only the rich survive. If we continue to live the lifestyle we are living right now, maybe we’ll stick around long enough to actually witness it. WAKE UP. Every time you’re shocked by new information about the food industry, working conditions in developing countries, the health of our planet and still choose to actively look away, you are making a choice. You are choosing to look away and not care enough. So here I scream for them, please don’t look away. Please choose them over the society standards, and the capitalist marketing tricks. And if you’re interested in why I’m so outraged tonight, watch this documentary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-0zHqYGnlo

thank you and good night.
