Norway getaway

In summer I spontaneously booked a flight to Oslo to visit a friend and wasn’t sure if I was going to go. But here I am sitting in a coffeehouse studying and catching the vibe of the city.

In Latin America I learned that couch surfing is one of the best possibilities to get to know new people and fully dig the culture of a place. And obviously it is by far the cheapest way to stay somewhere. Here I am couch surfing with a nun who belongs to a cult from India. It’s different from any experience I have ever made – considering she is kinda trying to convince me into becoming a nun?! Well, tomorrow I am moving in with a different Couchsurfer from Colombia. That’s really exciting considering I will be able to talk Spanish again 🙂

The city itself is filled with students. The sun sets at 4 pm and therefore the Oslo people seem to be living in coffeehouses and libraries. Love that vibe. Kinda expensive tho, paying 6€ for a Chai Latte 🥲 But the city is filled with young people and ……. highlight: FULL with Christmas lights already. The other day I found a small Christmas market and today I finally ate my very first candied apple and it was… interesting. It had been a childhood dream ever since I saw Pippi Langstrumpf eat one 🙂

I study law online which allows me to travel quite freely. My exams have to happen in presence of a formal supervisor and handwritten – seems a bit strange doesn’t it? Well that is the last thing to stop me from travelling. On Wednesday I had an exam and I took it at the Austrian embassy in Oslo. Loved the vibe of spending a chill evening in a small castle with a coffee and a nice lady. It’s a bit sad that I don’t have enough time to explore the rest of the country because I know that I am missing out on some amazing nature! But I guess that means I’ll just have to come back 😉

The highlight of my days here are my city walks in the really really cold weather – 1° to 2° Celsius – and the hot coffees afterwards ☕️ Or the study sessions in the comfy libraries, being surrounded by books that make you feel hugged and let you calm down. Not until now I realised how much easier it is to study when you share this experience with people around you. Definitely a small life-changing fact. Btw: the cold weather paid off: the other night it SNOWEDDD. That was especially exciting for me because I hadn’t seen snow in almost two years.

Note to self: whenever you feel like the walls are moving in on you and you feel backed against a corner, get out. Just get out. If you need to study go to the library or spend that 3€ on a coffee. It helps! If not, suck in the miracles and wonders nature has to offer. Hike a mountain if walking is not enough.

Enjoy life! Peace out xx
